Youth Advocates has felt the impact of the needs for additional support services in our community. We have seen a rise in the most troubled and at-risk youth. Yet at a time when additional services for these special needs population is rising, we are faced with shrinking support for our programs. Youth Advocates receives primary funding on a contract basis from the Department of Social Services (DSHS) and as a United Way agency. Beginning in 2003, United Way has cut funding by 10% across the board to all programs. Staff medical insurance has increased by 50% in the past two years and liability insurance has quadrupled. Despite strong support from the community, United Way and DSHS, our budget is far from balanced. These additional expenses have caused budget deficits. In response to these deficits, we have taken belt-tightening steps to cut costs.

We are reaching out for your support. Strategies to protect and strengthen the youth and their families are critical to the success of our community, and the overwhelming needs of this population are immense. Youth Advocates is an organization committed to excellence, with a clear vision and a passion for helping those youth that others may have given up on. With your help we will continue helping these troubled youth find the security and caring they need to make their lives happier today and more productive tomorrow.
